OwnTunes Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 6, 2026

Overview

OwnTunes is a privacy-first local music player for Android. The app is designed to play and organize audio stored on your device, support Android Auto and background playback, and let you transfer music over your own local Wi-Fi network.

Music and Local Files

OwnTunes reads local audio files and music metadata so it can show your library, play songs, organize playlists, display artwork and lyrics, and manage files you transfer into the app. Music files are not uploaded to cloud storage by default.

Wi-Fi Transfer

Wi-Fi Transfer starts only after you choose to start it. It creates a temporary local-network server on your phone so a browser on the same reachable network can upload, download, preview, edit, or delete music files in app-controlled transfer storage. OwnTunes does not configure router forwarding or intentionally expose the transfer server to the public internet.

Analytics and Crash Reporting

OwnTunes may use Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics only according to your privacy choices in the app. Product-level events and diagnostics help improve reliability. The app is designed not to send personal music details such as song titles, artist names, local file paths, Wi-Fi IP addresses, transfer PINs or tokens, user names, email addresses, playlist names, or URLs containing session tokens.

Ads and Purchases

OwnTunes may show ads through Google AdMob. Ads may use device identifiers and advertising signals according to your consent choices and Google policies. OwnTunes may offer an optional subscription to remove ads, processed through Google Play.

Permissions

OwnTunes requests permissions needed for music playback and management, including audio library access, notifications for playback controls, local network access for Wi-Fi Transfer, and foreground service permissions for background playback and transfers.
